[Problem of an Aspie #59] When you can’t correct a teacher who is making mistakes, or getting facts wrong on subjects directly pertaining to your obsession.
Every English class I’ve ever taken.
Maybe every class but PE. Yep. :/
Not Aspie but neurodiverse, and this.
Was tempted to throw that in myself, but didn’t want to sound nitpicky. Which is actually amusing in this context. (Just generically autistically weird neurotype here.)
I always had that problem with psychotherapists. But, of course, they weren’t wrong *cough*, it was just my misdirected anger! :-D
But of course!
I actually never corrected therapists, but I have yet to see one while not under some kind of duress. (And don’t plan on it anytime soon, based on experience. Though, indeed, I am sure that there are some levelheaded, respectful ones around.) I just had to sit and listen while they decided what my motives, thoughts, emotions, and reactions really were—no matter what I said they were—to the point that I just started making up the kinds of stuff they seemed to expect*, to get them off my back. And I am still trying to untangle some of the damage, yeah.
Misdirected anger, outright delusions invented to shield you from The Truth (as defined by them), defensive reactions to abuse you never in fact experienced, seventeen other flavors of denial, worse “anger problems” the more of that you have to listen to, you name it… It couldn’t just be that they’re wrong and continuing to work off some really bad assumptions and coming up with really convoluted ‘splaining for things they do not understand. (Especially when the person they’re dealing with is, oh, autistic with apparent TLE in the first place…and the more meds, the worse problems they run into.)
OK, I just can’t resist opportunities to rant about when “helping” is just not. ~wry smile~
*I really do not like lying. But, needs must. :-|
